Links Strange Maine - This is an awesome blog created by a local girl who enjoys the oddities of Maine, including our little group. Portland Trails - a non-profit urban land trust dedicated to building a network of multi-use trails in the greater Portland, Maine area. Portland Freedom Trail - the first marker was dedicated on November 9, 2006 in front of the Eastern Cemetery, the resting place of some of Portland’s noted abolitionists. Greater Portland Landmarks - described as the "architectural conscience" of greater Portland, this organization has increased the public's awareness of and appreciation its remarkable built environment. Maine Master Gardener Program - administered at the University of Maine, the program provides participants with in-depth training in the art and science of horticulture from Extension educators and industry experts. Trained Master Gardeners volunteer their time and expertise in many ways for community programs and activities. Munjoy Hill Neighborhood Association - find out what's going on in the vibrant neighborhood where the Eastern Cemetery is located. Maine Office of Tourism - plan your next visit to Maine. Maine Humanities Council - uses literature, history, philosophy and the arts to provide opportunities for people to come together in conversation that crosses social, economic and cultural barriers. It provides cultural enrichment opportunities through programs, seminars, and grants for Mainers of all ages and abilities. Portland Public Library's Portland Room - located here, the Maine Collection contains both current and early materials related to Maine by subject, author, or publisher. You can find a copy of Bill Jordan's book, Burial Records 1717-1962 of the Eastern Cemetery Portland, ME as well as the accompanying blueprint of the cemetery. Maine Historical Society - dedicated to the preservation, understanding, and enjoyment of Maine history, the third oldest historical society in America houses the Longfellow House and Garden, the Maine Historical Society Museum and Store, the MHS Research Library and the Maine Memory Network. Maine Preservation - an organization dedicated to protecting Maine's historic places. The Association for Gravestone Studies - fosters appreciation of the cultural significance of gravestones and burial grounds through their study and preservation. National Trust for Historic Preservation - a private, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to saving historic places and revitalizing America's communities. Save Our Cemeteries - since 1974, this New Orleans group has dedicated itself to the preservation and restoration of Louisiana's historic cemeteries while reinforcing their architectural and cultural value to the public. SEA, Society for East End Arts - a member organization of Portland artists on Munjoy Hill who cosponsored the Beyond the Gates event with us. Maine Old Cemetery Association - dedicated to the preservation of Maine's Neglected Cemeteries. Casco Bay Frames - a local frame shop with a big heart for local art. They hosted our first exhibition of Beyond the Gates – Art Inspired by the Eastern Cemetery. Monument Builders of North America - since 1906 the MBNA unites stone carvers and monument builders in their own trade association. Maine Memorial Company - Paul DiMatteo is a third-generation memorialist who created and installed the new benches in the Eastern Cemetery. |
